Next up at 4 p.m. is Tapeworm, the shocking debut feature from Winnepeg filmmakers Miloš Mitrovič and Fabián Velasco. Shot in gritty 16mm, Tapeworm confidently explores themes of existentialism and isolation through portraits of struggling characters stuck in a go-nowhere town. After the film, join us for a Q+A with the directors.

So Pretty is the latest feature from Jessica Dunn Rovinelli, following the lives of a polyamorous “proto-utopia” in New York City. Loosely based around a German novella of the same name, the film concerns itself with the process of translation: of the source material, of language, of geography, and of a stunning host of techniques from a prestigious but hitherto narrow and hegemonic art cinema canon. Stick around for our Q+A with Jessica following the film.

HIFF's third day ends with This Is Not a Burial, It's a Resurrection, the spellbinding new feature from Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese. The film is a bold and uncompromising vision that weaves South African folklore into social-realist drama to tell a story of identity, colonial legacy, and the power of resilience.
