POSITION: HIFF Festival Assistant

Start Date: May 1, 2023

End Date: July 31, 2023

Hours: 30hrs / week

Pay: $650/week*

The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival is looking for a Festival Assistant to join the team planning this year's festival, which takes place June 21-24 in downtown Halifax. This position is funded through the Job Creation Partnership Program and candidates must be eligible for that program in order to be considered. 

The HIFF Festival Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the 17th annual Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival, including helping with sponsorship, programming, print traffic, and event logistics. 

*This position is funded through the Job Creation Partnership program and the chosen candidate is eligible to receive the maximum EI rate of $650/week (non insurable hours)

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate should have experience with and knowledge of social media platforms, website software (such as SquareSpace), bulk email client applications and basic office tools such as Word, Excel, and Photoshop. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favourably but is not necessary. This is a learning position and the successful applicant will work with support and supervision from other HIFF and AFCOOP staff and committees.

ELIGIBILITY

This job is funded through the Job Creation Partnership Program of Employment Nova Scotia. JCP is a program designed to support projects that will provide Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) eligible participants with meaningful work experience that will improve their employment prospects. The focus of JCP is to aid participants in acquiring work experience that will assist them in securing  full time employment.

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • have a current Employment Insurance (EI) claim

  • have had an EI claim that ended within the last 60 months

  • have received benefits under the EI emergency response benefit within the previous 60 months

  • have been employed with gross insurable earnings of $2000 or higher annually, in at least 5 of the last 10 years
