AFCOOP is accepting applications from the community for emerging programmers for the inaugural HIFF After Images series debuting in the fall of 2021.

After Images is HIFF’s first off-season event, a free series screening in-person and online. HIFF is looking for emerging programmers who self-identify as coming from equity-seeking communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and the Disabled community) to join the After Images programming committee. The festival will provide funding, support, and hands-on programming experience curating content for the project, which will feature six Canadian features paired with six local shorts. The series aims to include work by diverse Canadian artists who would not otherwise be shown in Nova Scotia or Atlantic Canada.

Committee work in advance of After Images will include: researching films; pre-screening feature films and shorts; discussing films watched with the group; and writing screening notes.

Timeline: August 2021 - February 2022

Qualifications*

- Knowledge of independent cinema. This knowledge could be in a broad film history sense or in a specific genre or sub-set;

- Familiarly with HIFF (or similar festivals) and the type of work that the festival has presented in the past;

- Excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with the committee and AFCOOP staff, and a willingness to balance the needs of the broader community with personal interests.

*Note about Qualifications: AFCOOP is committed to developing new voices in film programming in Nova Scotia. It is not a requirement for applicants to have programmed or curated film or media art screenings in the past. A sincere interest in programming and cinema combined with a willingness to learn are much more important.

The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF) is a 4-day festival held each June, dedicated to showcasing bold, innovative film and media art from the Atlantic region and around the world.
